    Default New Japanese Stone

    I just got a new finishing stone. Can anyone tell me what this says?

    Looks like it has the Maruka stamp.
    Where did you get it from if its not a secret?

    If that is the Maruka stamp then the stone should be Nakayama, and supposedly a fine finisher. Test it and see how it does.

    Its should be a Nakayama Maruka Tomae, I just wasn't sure what the Script said. So far it finishes finer than my very high end Ohira Suita, but I haven't shaved with the edge yet.

    oohira is not going to be finer than the Nakyama, and in general the stones from the Tomae strata are finer. I'd guess your Oohira now will serve best as step to the Nakayama.

    Wish I had a friend in Japan like that. Nice stone, hope the shave is smooth as silk.
