    Default Mystery hone

Does anyone have any idea what this is? It's in a casket type of case, and it looks like an oil stone or it has oil on it:

Could be many things, a good lapping and a close up of the stone would help

Finally I get to steal Lynn's line: "You pays yo' money, you takes yo' chances!"

Until you get the oil cleaned off, there's no way to know for sure. It might be worth a gamble, but it might not be.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

I was looking at it but not for the stone but for the box.

Hard to tell from the photo, but the size, length to width looks like it the shape of a Thüringen.

I am always looking for old stones. My philosophy is that if some one took the time to make a custom box for it, it is most probably a good finisher. The nicer or more work put into the box the better the stone. Someone paid a pretty penny for the rock and was so proud of it they made a nice box to protect it and show case it.

Snap it up. Worst case it’s a black surgical Ark, Love those old black arks, even new black arks are pricy, bid accordingly.

Bought an oil soaked boxed Thüringen with the surface dished 3/8 of an inch in the center. Popped it out of the box and the bottom was perfect. Won’t even tell you what I paid, for fear of hate mail.
