STROP-BACK HONE
Hi all.
I just became the proud owner of a early 1900's barber hone called a "Strop-Back" hone. I have never heard of them.
The pictures of it showed a hone with one side leather and a cushion material under it, with the other side as the hone. The embossed name on the stone side says: "Strop-Back Hones" and underneath that is says; "Patented Aug. 05".
When I receive it I will post pictures.
Anyone that has heard of these or knows more about them please chime in as I know nothing about it accept it's antique.
Thx!

Thanked: 3795Yes, I've heard of them and I have a few of them. They were simply a subset category of barber hones. As you described, there is a strop attached to the back of the hone. I consider them to be more of a novelty rather than a functional option for current use. That is, I don't think that you should use it instead of a standard strop. The simple reason is that the strop is so short relative to a regular strop. That said, they're still pretty nice to play with and could be used in a pinch for a travel strop.
