    Default Escher AFTER Coticule?

I've read this bit from an online retailer a few times, and always wanted to ask what the SRP Escher owners think. (I am not one.)

Can I use it as a final hone after using the Belgian garnet stone?

We are often asked this question. If you have used a high quality natural Belgian stone, the Escher/Thuringian stone is NOT recommended as a final hone, because the edge profiles created by these stones are different and not complementary. A high quality Belgian stone (such as the ones we sell) produces an edge without burrs, therefore that edge is already drawn toward attaining an ideal finish, so you wouldn't gain any advantage by using the Escher.

However, if you happen to own a low-quality Belgian stone (more aptly: a stone containing fewer garnets of large size, therefore cutting a coarser edge profile), there can be some improvement with the use of the Escher.
    Thanx,

I would love to see that high quality new coticules which Escher wont give any improvement .
I have seen only 2 coticules which will give close edge to escher .
Not same. just close. They both old coticules Salm coticule and next one no name very slow cutter.

IN General who posted that message very smart person. He accepts at least there is low quality coticules out there. Some people never accept even that.

I am really glad that I didn't read what that online retailer said before I had already gotten great results following a coticule with an escher. One, the coticule, has garnet as the abrasive, while the Thuringan/Escher is quartz as the abrasive in a binder of metamorphic chalk. I don't pretend to know scientifically why the escher will improve the edge but it does IME. YMMV.

Edit; BTW, I am skeptical as to whether that vendor's "Genuine Escher" is what he says it is. I may be wrong though, I was wrong once before.

You aren't; it isn't: it's an MST Thuringian.

As for the rest: it's nonsense too. Or, to formulate a bit more cautious if not more friendly: I haven't used a Coticule that was up to par with any of my labelled Eschers.

As I read it, the quote in the OP isn't actually saying that the edges off coti's are better than or even as good as those off eschers. To me, it's saying that the "edge profiles" are "different and not complimentary" - which I interpret as saying that going from the coti to the escher does something odd in terms of polish/scratch pattern/final edge that is not advantageous. As to whether or not this is true, I have no idea - I do have a vintage Thurry and a coticule so in theory I could experiment, but my face isn't sensitive enough to really tell the differences between stones anyway.

I use coticule as my 8k and escher as my finisher and it works well.

Fair enough, but I maintain my assertion. To rephrase and clarify: I have not used any Coticule that produced edges which I could not improve using any of my labelled Eschers.

I never experienced improvement over the one escher I had with my coticules, but I did experience improvement in the opposite direction with the majority of the few razors I finished on both stones

which was only maybe a dozen razors, but still it was enough of a consistent difference for me to prefer my escher as a finishing hone over my coticules when using them one after the other

i have tryed this my self , going from coti to escher. the differance i could'nt say there was any signifcant differance. as above says that exactly what i thought. both naturals would'nt complament each other and what is the point of using both naturals, that s why i sold my eschers. there was somthing differant in the feel on my face but nothing where i thought bloody hell thats amazingly better. infact i have noticed bigger changes using diamond sprays and paste.
after say 8k norton you could use either and then compare the differance coming of synthetic hone much better i should think.

Well if you're using cheap Eschers what do you expect ?
