Question Boss Barber Hone for Touchup?

I grabbed a boss barber hone off of ebay some time ago as the price was right. I was searching through some previous posts on here and someone had mentioned that the grit was approximately 6k - 8k.

Is this barber hone sufficient for touching up my razors occasionally or should I get a 10k or 12k for that purpose? I'm assuming that since it is a "barber's hone" it is sufficient, but just wanted to run it by the experts.

I would recommend making sure the Barber Hone is clean and then just giving it a try using 4-6 strokes as a touch up followed by a good stropping and see if it works for you before buying another stone.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

Thanks! The hone was advertised as lapped and clean and it looks like it is. I have not needed it yet, but I will test it out when the time comes. Since my oldest razors were honed by you, I may never need it.

As far as touching up razors goes, when is the best time to do this?

For instance, can you shave with a razor, and then go straight to the barber hone than strop? Or.....is it best to strop first, then go to the barber hone, then strop again?

Hone, strop, shave. If the razor isn't yet cutting properly, repeat as needed. There's no need to strop before honing.
