Default VTG Coticule and Paddle Box

This beautiful lady arrived in today's post. She came free of the original paddle box, and I'd like to glue her again. Any idea what the reddish stuff might be and/or what to use in its place?

Oh, and she is 7" long x 1.5" wide (average) x .5" thick.

    Thanx,
    Christopher

very nice coticule but sorry no idea what is a red stuff.
if you like to glue it back you can use anything water proof glues.
just make sure it is water proof. gl

Also I was toying with the idea of cleaning all the red junk from the stone and box, then keeping the stone free for hand-honing and using the box for storage, but I've heard coticules are fragile which is why they are always glued to slate (or wood box), so I'm undecided.

But if I choose to glue the stone again, I like the waterproof glue idea. =)

    Thanx,
    Me

I would send Rob at Ardennes a PM and get his advice. Sometimes it is better to glue with something reversible if you decided you want to go to a different backing. I would think about buying a bbw, gluing to it and evening up the edges. YMMV.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It looks like some type of epoxy. If you want to glue it back in, and not come out, ever, I'd use two part epoxy, or liquid nails....
