Thanked: 13247Hone labels
So I was screwing around on my computer at work, and made labels for the bottoms of my natural hones...
The Escher I mounted on a 3x8x1/4 inch Plexiplate with epoxy so that the label will always be protected and it makes it easy to lock it in the stone holder when honing...
I simply put down a layer of varnish on the bottom of the stones or in the Nakayama's case the wood stand... Let the label soak in it and then brushed on more.. I let them dry for 12 hours between coats, and stopped after 3 coats...
So these are absolutely not needed, of no importance, and were kinda fun to do by the way I was not trying for a antique look that just sorta happened..

That is a nice idea.
I've been thinking about trying to find some pics of the original vintage labels from internet, printing them and adding into wooden stone cases i've made.
Just an idea; this far i've been just too lazy to do it.
Varnish is a good idea; i never came to think about it.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'

That is a man who loves his tools. Nice.....
On the practical side, no one in my family has a clue what my stones are, my be a good heirloom idea with the naturals.Last edited by Kingfish; 08-15-2010 at 09:49 AM.

Thanked: 1936Label preservation
That method should work as well on original ink shouldn't it?

Thanked: 13247I would test on a tiny spot of the ink first, one of the labels I used I had a Magic Marker border on there, and it ran, so I had to re-do that one... I had no trouble with the computer ink at all...

Glen:
Here's another thing I do. I put little rubber feet on the bottom of my hones.
Especially those attached to wooden bases, like these that I got from OS.
He loved the idea when he saw it. It's much more stable when you hone.
(I don't have a stone holder)We have assumed control !
