    Default new hone question

i just purchases a new stone, its 1200 on oneside and 3000 on the other. my question is, do i need to do anything to break in this stone? it is a water stone made for straight razors and im not sure if i need to condition it or just begin honing away. any ideas or info would be a huge help.

Lap it and that should do it.
What brand is it? You will also need a 8k and possibly(but not necessarily) higher grit stone to finish the edge.
