Thanked: 45Charnley Forest?
Does anyone have an idea what this stone might be? It was a surprise when I started to lap it and noticed that it's green in color. I took the pictures next to half of my translucent arkansas which met an untimely death due to a fall off of my bench...very sad!
Thanks,

Certainly looks like one to me. Great find, these are extinct as in the mines are closed and no more will ever be produced.
Have you tested it on a razor yet? I'm interested to see how it works for you.
Keep us posted!

Thanked: 45Thanks guys! I'm really excited now. I did 30 passes with just water on one of my razors and the results are promising! It didn't seem to degrade my Escher edge so I hope it's a good one! I haven't shaved with it yet so the true test will have to wait.

+1, it definately looks like one..! Congrats!
These are pretty high grit stones (20k+ I reckon, mine feels smoother than a 16k Shapton and leaves a finer scratch pattern) and I tend to do a fair few strokes on mine to get the best results. I do a minimum of 50 on hollow ground razors and up to 100 on fuller grinds.
They make excellent finishers, hope you enjoy it!
