Thread: Hone -vs- Stone what is in a name????

If it's natural it's a stone. The action is honing though.

Stoned stoning. Now that sounds challenging!

I use hone and stone pretty much interchangeably!

I tend to call natural stones "naturals" when I refer to them though, and call them by their specific name if I'm referring to one in particular.

A stone is just a small rock. A hone is a stone or rock that's really good for sharpening stuff. So I voted hone regardless of how it's made,

I refer to manmades as manmades and naturals as naturals. Just to mix it up I also refer to hones as hones and stones as stones I'll even use whetstone, waterhone, naturally man made, diamond plate, sand paper, pasted strap (I knew you'd like that one), unnaturally formed, naturally manufactured, and USO (unidentified sharpening object)
