    Default Swaty Stone

Is a Swaty ok just for a first stone just to keep the blade healthy. Or is there something other I should be looking at that is new? I just do not want to start spending a lot of money on stones.

I have read on other posts that the Swaty stone is good for that.

    Ideas gentlemen?

I think this falls into the realm of appraisals and is not allowed.

    I'll send you a PM.

Swaty barber hones are one of the better barber hones.
If this was 1920 Swaty would be the better answer. There
are a lot of barber hones as good as the Swaty.

Note well that barber hones have mixed reviews. Used with
lather and used with a minimum number of strokes (6) and
not too often they seem to work well but not as well
as a Naniwa Super Stone in my opinion. My whiskers
like the sharp smooth edge I get from my Na12K superstone.

If you find a Swaty hone for a good price it is worth
a try. If you shopped with care' you should be able to resell
the Swaty for much of what you paid if you do not like it.

    Summary:
Barber hone with lather used LIGHTLY can suffice or not.
Individual faces will report differing results/opinions.

I use a Swaty and I like it but I get less irritation if I finish on a hard paddle pasted with chrome ox rather than shaving right off the Swaty.
