    Default Hone Help

I have 4 straights but no hone!!! im borrowing one from a friend right now and really need to give it back seeing that i have had it for over a year. Anybody know where a used belgian couticle can be bought? ive checked all over the web all i can find is new ones or old natural stones that people want 400 and up for. any help would be great.

a "used" coticule is worth the same amount as a "new" coticule.

It is not like buying a new car.

You can watch ebay and hope you get lucky. Also check out antique stores.

Good point, since he's been using one, but I never recommend a Coti to a new user, usually a Norton 4/8 or Naniwa 5 and 8K, it's hard enough for a new guy to learn how to hone, let alone figuring out a Coticule...and I agree. If you do want to buy one, check Bart at Coticule.be He can at least give you some specifics on the individual hone.

BTW, 400.00 and up, for a Coticule seems really high to me...If you want, contact me via PM, and I may be able to point you in the right direction....

    Good Luck,

    Rich

Oh yes, could be. But if we are going to split hairs (heh heh), Zee asked where he could purchase a couticule, not a coticule. possibly a cheap ebay imitation?

I suppose you are right. I made an assumption based on the information provided. For all I know he has been using a complete set of nortons, but is unimpressed with them and wants a coticule.

Hey guys, took a while for me to find my own post. I have been using an old barbers hone, not coticle, but the man i borrowed the hone from let me use his coticle ( how do you spell that damn word) to sharpen my razors once. So i have learned on a belgian yellow. Id really like to walk into an antique store and find one, just hasnt happened yet. Thanks for everyones help.

Every single coticule is different. By using only ones it is hard to know the stone. if you have honed At least 10 or more blades on that stone.
i have nothing against coticule to own it.
Very important part is from whom or company etc you buy make sure that stone is mean to for straight razors. Exactly to say you can finish the straight razor on that stone. Stone will be fine enough.
This is the reason i always advise to own synthetic hones such as Norton 4/8k, Naniwa etc.
it is easy to learn and you know what are you getting.
    hope this helps.
