Speaking of antique book restorers ...... A late friend of mine owned such an establishment in Montclair, NJ back in the '80s. He recommended Sobo glue is really good for reinforcing the worn edges or the box and Krylon Preserve It is what I use for large labels and such. If you've got any books that are beginning to split at the binding Sobo is very good for repairing that condition.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
