Looks glued to me too, if you look between the two sides there is a brownish line in between which is usually a glue line.

According to Bart some old hones that are glued to BBW are not suitable to hone on the BBW side because that BBW layer came from a far away piece of the mined rock whereas the natural combos share sharpening properties from being close together in the vein. I haven't tested this but it was interesting to hear.

I'm sure it is glued, all I wanted to know if it had a bbw glued to it instead of slate as it was stated.
Not that I'd use the bbw a lot, basically from setting the bevel to finishing and touching up my razor(s) is all done with the coticule. But if it is a bbw I'd like to try it out.

    thanks for the replies

Agreed, except for the throwing it away part!
I'm still not convinced that it is glued. I've never seen an instance when anything but a straight cut was used to join the two sides of a coticule. It just would not have been worth the bother to do such a complicated cut to make the irregular layers match together. I'm speculating that there is simply checking (cracking) at the junction between the layers.

The new pics make it look like it's a natural combo so I am doubting what I said before lol.

It looks natural to me, looks like filler was used to fill up some gaps on the side, Coti's are very fragile...sort of...

P.S. Dude, way too many pics....

Ha! Where coticules are concerned, there's no such thing.
