    Default Naniwa SS Set

Just Picked myself up a set Naniwa Super stones. Is there anything i need to do to them before i start to hone other than spray some water on them.

Excellent purchase. Do you have a lapping plate? I'd give them all a good lap first. Get the top bit off, about 1/8th of an inch. Then the stones feel great.

I was just setting some bevels about ten minutes ago, and thinking while I was honing that I really enjoy when I get to the 12k stage. I really like the feel of that stone.

Aside from lapping them, be sure to remove the stickers! Apparently some were not aware of the need for that.

    TrilliumLT,

For the first uses, my Naniwas needed a good bit of lapping, but I have found that over time the amount of lapping needed has fallen dramatically, and now need only a quick lap.
(I think this is quite common with resin-based water-stones - they are not the most dimensionally stable stones !)

For me, a honing newbie, the Naniwas really are 'SuperStones'; lovely to use and give a spiffing edge

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Yes you can. See this tutorial here for detailed instructions.
