You have learned a valuable lesson about eBay sellers. Lots of them who can talk the talk still don't know anything about what they are selling or else know enough to rip off those who know less.

There a couple of constant hone hucksters on eBay. There are many more razor scammers. Some of them go through a long description of the elaborate process they used to hone your razor to shave readiness and then when you get the razor it has a highly polished bevel with an edge as dull as a butterknife.

I am a beginner honer, and I have not seen in real life many of the "classic" hones, ie., Thuri's, Eschers, Charnley. I doubt I could tell from one if it bit me. it may be helpful if you can tell me the sellers to stay away from.

I think the better advice would be "Until you can tell the stones apart, stay away from all the sellers." Once you know what the stones look like, you will be able to avoid the problems on your own.

Which is to serve as a reminder that SRP does not blacklist sellers... eBay is beyond the jurisdiction and interest of the administration here.

May I ask who the seller was who sold you the BBW?

The Goldfisch may be purple and look like a BBW but still be a Thuringian. I have one without a box and it has pretty much the same colour as a BBW.

I do hope you gave appropriate feedback.

I feel your pain, no matter how well you think you have triple checked something you still don't seem to get what you thought you were about to.

I think I found those "Escher" type stones on the completed listings. Did you get both from the same seller?
