    If you put a drop of water on the stone and spread it with your finger, you will find that water does indeed absorb into the stone. It is slow, but the stone does take in water. Despite this, I have never been able to discern any difference in the stones whether I soak them or not.

    (Since I haven't mentioned it for at least a week, I'd like to point out that the Chinese hone is not 12k!)
