It does look a lot like Neil's Turkey Oilstone, without having one like his I'm not sure if I can tell the difference.
I would have started with 120 grit sanding mesh or sanding paper but you're getting there.

Thanked: 2trust me i would have used something heavier but i only had 240 in wet and dry and didnt want to even think about using standard sandpaper! ah well, its taking ages but the final surface should be immense, the areas that are now flat feel fantastic, easily smoother than my 8k norton (well so i think, maybe its placebo!?)

Thanked: 2well i finished lapping around 1am eventually and jeez it was hard work!
finish is pretty impressive though and gave my dovo a bit of a hone on it and it certainly felt very sharp, didnt strop it though as im still waiting on mine! (cardinal sin there sorry gents!)
but had a go at shaving with it and it felt pretty good, certainly as good as coming of my 8k norton if not better!
ill try and get a picture up again of the finished item, might help identify it too

Pistol I hope that your hone ends up being a fine finisher wherever it is from. Just curious tho, the other hone pictured looks like one I have do you have any info on it? The one I have is very hard and seems to be a higher grit for polishing.
Thanks Peter B
