    My bit to the bunch.
I think it is not CF (75% sure too many thick lines) certainly not from Wittle hill. I am looking forward to see those finished pictures.

thanks for input, i've been hoping we can get to the bottom of this stone!

heres another picture of it in the finished state after i lapped it, very very smooth, and its certainly as smooth as the norton 8k if not higher but its hard to tell

i tried to leave the left side wet to show the colour a bit better

    any more thoughts on it?

i do agree that i dont think its a charnley forest, thats pretty certain now but still not sure what it is!

have only tried it with water though so maybe some oil might be the next thing and see how it goes, its very very hard though!!!

Thank you for the pics. I say no it is not CF. However it is beautifull and if it is so fine you are still the winner. Congratulations. I am thinking more about Turkey (cracks and shapes of chips on the edge)as Neil said before.
What you have experienced I am experiencing quite often when a ball of gunk is in your eyes CF untill you lap it and then you see that it is something completely different. And then people are surprised that prices of CFs go through the roof.

i would agree, its not a charnley but would be good to know what it is!

might end up putting it up for sale though as i would ideally like a charnley, i have 5 stones here and i think i have a few that overlap so ideally id like some seperation in the grades

ill try it with oil and take it from there but has anyone any more thoughts?

What are the dimensions? If previously posted I apologize I could not find them.

    Pretty cool stone!

There's definately a risk involved when trying to find Charnleys, but this is not a bad outcome. My last arrival was a 10" Washita, it looked green in the picture

found this page and it seems to have some similar pictures and info that seem to be very similar to what mine sounds like so im beginning to think escher or thuringian!?

Did you write before that lapping it was slow and tedious process? If yes then I doubt it is either Escher or Thuri as they are much softer.

The Eschers and Thuringians at Timbertools aren't even the real thing so I wouldn't try to compare this stone to those. There are a lot of Escher pictures at this forum and they are easy to find

Imo it doesn't look anything like Thuringians. Still looks somewhat like a CF, but not enough to be one. It does look much more like the before mentioned Turkey Neil has for sale. Also a lot of useful information at that page.

If it is a Turkey like Neil's it could be ideal to use prior to a fine finisher.
