    Question Barbers hones

I've finally decided to pick up a barbers hone, after reading the wiki and realizing I didn't need a full set of hones. Although I am interested in restoration I understand how important learning to hone correctly is. So I'd like to pick up a barbers hone, but as I look around I haven't found much on determining the grit of a barbers hone, as well as good brands, and how do u determine the speed of the hone? As I said I have been reading old threads and wikis and haven't been able to answer some questions. Any help is appreciated, also any recommendations on where to buy.

Thanks for the great thread. I guess all that looking and I missed the motherload! I've seen the opinions of so many people around here and their all so great. Any tips to look out for, like things to avoid, or things to make it worth the money, and any tips on places to buy??

Easy enough, thanks for the heads up. Now do all barber hones require oil? I've seen some that mention lather, but never any with water, does the liquid make a difference or does it just go by hone material?

Sorry for the confusion, but yes i mean the cutting speed.I know so many people comment about how fast or slow a stone cuts. What is the preferred/ what is best for a newb? And do all stones require a slurry stone to get them prepped?
