If you know where to look, you can get a superb stone for much less.

I decided to get something that was a known quantity, but the jnat desire is definitely still there. Just gotta save up the money again...
I'm just thinking of using it as a finisher--not really looking to do nagura progressions at the moment. Could also be that my Nakayama is now essentially worthless on razors after having gotten to a new layer & still pretty furious over what I paid, considering that fact...

Definitely would like to try them @ one point, but I'm also looking for a known quantity. Now tomonagura slurry, on the other hand would probably be essential to getting the most out of a hard asagi, but I'm going to wait a bit on the Mikawa progression. I'm thinking Nortons or Choseras 1st, followed by a nice hard Shoubudani.

    Default My thoughts so far

So I've been playing around with these stones for a little over a week.
In that period of time, I have honed some 30 razors on my Chosera's (1-5-10K).

My results this far, seem to be very much in line with those of the OP.

Going with the 1-5-10K setup was a bit of a gamble, I based it pretty much on the reviews found in this and other threads, and they were spot on.
These stones are seriously fast, bridging the gap between grits was no problem at all.
I did also try out the slurry route, just to get to know them a bit more, and as expected that speeded things up even more.
As I have learned the stones a bit more, I find that I use a wee bit of slurry on the 5K stone, and not the others.
I dilute it quite quickly, and continue on water only for a few more laps.

I'm pretty impressed with these stones, they are really easy to use, and they deliver very good results in a minimal amount of time.

The 10K, to me, has been the most impressive of my set.

FloorPizza and Holli4pirating talks about the the grit breaking down, and giving an even finer grit to polish on.
My limited experience this far, seems to verify that claim, to a certain degree.
The 10K really leaves a very sharp and decently smooth edge when worked right.
I finish my razors on an Escher, a Charnley Forrest or one of my J-Nats.
They do make a difference on the finishing stage, but not by all that much.
I could easily shave out the rest of my days off of the 10K Chosera.

Given that these hones are pretty pricey, I'm not sure that they are of huge interest to everybody though.
I have a similar setup of The Naniwa SuperStones as well, and their performance are well documented on this site. Very very fine honing system.

That said, for me, I think the Chosera stones was a step up from the SS, and I will be using them as my main sharpening system from now on.

    Edit:
I have chosen to do the soaking thing on these stones, and that has worked out really great. They are really thirsty, and I got tired of adding water constantly. Soaking them for 20-30 minutes, leaves me with a stone that stays wet for as long as I need it to be.
I sure hope I wont regret that...
