So wait... A German company using German words to label a German hone is "slick" because Americans can't read German? Hmmm...

Maybe they're labeled "Echter Wasserabziehstein" because that's what they are.

Nonsense! If they weren't resorting to underhanded trickery they would have labelled it in English. (or possibly Spanish) (or even French) (maybe Mongolian) (is there even such a language as Mongolian?)

I have got one or two hones with a label that is identical to the stamp on the wooden box. Mine are Thuringians like any grey generic small Thuringen hone but definitely not Eschers and not as large.

Indeed, there is. It's an interesting language--they use the Russian Cyrillic alphabet in addition to an old Mongolian script related to Tibetan, even though it's linguistically a member of the Mongolic language family.

BTW, good catch on that other language--I thought it was Italian, but you're right. Agua, not aqua.

Echter is not a brand name, the pic says (translated) "Real Water stone/hone! For razors, knifes and tools. Only use with water!" Echter meaning Real.

Can't read the brand name, i think it's in the logo in the middle.

In the middle is a picture of a man holding an unfolded straight razor across his chest.

Around his head it reads: "Oh wie herrlich", meaning: "Oh how nice", obviously referring to the quality of the razor's edge created using the hone.

Actually, he's referring to the smoothness of his freshly shaved chest ...an obvious grab for the metro-sexual market out there.

If you doubt it, imagine the "Oh how nice" in Cleveland's voice.

good catch Jim,I had it right here and didnt catch it thanks. It works well though, shooter should give it a try,also it was sold as a Thuringian not an Escher,it was my minds eye that saw the word Escher,like I said before,it works ,and it works well so Im happy with it
