Default Anyone Taken Naniwa SS off there bases?

I realize there's an outlet that sells thicker SS without a base. But I already have my stone set and love them...except for the freakin' bases. I know I'll have to reglue them to a different base. I'll gladly cut some tiles, granite, or anything for new "solid" bases. Heck I've probably got enough 1/4" aluminum.

    I love the stones.
    I HATE these bases.

I don't care I loose a few mm of stone thickness either...that's how desperate I am. They take up valuable space (I have a mobile setup for non-razor items) when I don't use them for razors, and they make holding in-hand a bugger when I am using them for razors.

I would guess that the only safe way to remove it would be to cut it off with a bandsaw.

Of course, another option would be to sell your hones and start over with the thicker ones.

May try taking the edges of the plastic off with a table saw, then sanding down the back to just a plastic sheet that I can then glue to something rigid.

I guess I was hoping for some info on what glue is used, if heat could do it without messing with the binder in the stone.

not gonna work they use some very good glue that does not come off easy.
    I broke my 1k a while a go trying to de-base it.
King stones are easy to remove if you ever wonder.

+1 Sell them and buy the ones without the base. Getting back something is better than ruining what you have. Just IMHO.

I cant take suspense. "Necessity is the mother" ...and I figured I'd get this weekend off to a little adventure.

With a table saw and a plywood blade I chopped the base done to just a thin sheet. From there I discovered nothing more than three dabs of rubber cement. With the plastic that thin it just peeled right off. I have it clamped to base made out of a cutting board right now. Doubt the glue will hold, but gotta try.

I got the thick one without the base and did this with rubber feet underneath. I can flip instead of flatten! Works well for me.
