I generally soak mine for only about 5 minutes while I get things set up for honing for the evening. I then just spritz it with water as needed while doing my bevel setting. Seems to work just fine for me and the stone is quite fast as is.

To me the biggest difference between the Chosera stones and the SS is in the feel of using them. One has a soft feel with great feedback and one has a little harder feel with great feedback. I really don't think anyone can go wrong with either of them. I have a set of both just cuz I had to try them out and compare, but for the everyday honer, I am sticking with it will be a preference ting.

    Have fun,

First as everyone says that 90% of the honing process is with the bevel setting, which i now realize is 100% true,i have decided to get the Chosera 1000 after all the great feedback this stone gets.

The only issue for me was the price as it is more expensive.

But what Lynn said is true.

I haven't seen a Chosera in front of me but in pictures it looks a lot thicker than the Naniwa ss.

So it is probably a pretty good deal if you compare the size.

    Will probably last longer also.

Thanks Lynn for pushing me over the edge on this purchase and when i get it i will let you guys know my thoughts on it.

    Traps,

You won't regret getting it....you'll love this hone!! Fast, very smooth for a 1k and very, very fast with a little slurry left on from clean lapping. If I could only own 2 or 3 hones, this would be one of them.

    Enjoy it!!

    Regards,

    Howard

    Can't wait to get it.

I have been only honing and exclusively straight shaving for a few months and have realized how important setting the bevel is.

Don't get me wrong but the Naniwa ss was great but am always looking to get to the next level.

When i take my time and do it wright setting the bevel the blade is just perfect.

When the bevel is not good, nothing can be done going to the higher grits.

I will let you know how my first go at it with the Chosera works out.

Thanks for all the great info.
