What did I just buy?
I got 7 hones in a lot. Seems to me it's 1 bbw/coti, 1 C12?, and 6 barber hones.
VINTAGE MIXED LOT,STRAIGHT RAZOR SHARPENER STONE,HONE - eBay (item 190512342067 end time Mar-17-11 14:40:19 PDT)
Can't really make out the brands. Any of them look familiar to you?

You pay your money and take your chances. I think I saw this one. The coti could be a good one. The Chinese, stone could be good too. Plus the barber hones, For 45 bucks with shipping, you would pay that much for one decent barber hone. I say good job... You'll have to test the stones and let us know how it turned out. Thanks for sharing.

Thanked: 993Looks to me like you bought 5 barber's hones. The first line of the ebay post is "the two stones with the slurry stones on top are not for sale. these are my new bbw.coti and c12k."
I think you're collecting barber's hones now.

I usually scroll at high speed through the ebay auctions just looking at the pictures till I spot something nice. For a couple seconds I was really excited when I found this lot.
The 2 stones were only added for bait which is just wrong. Fortunately this practise doesn't happen often when looking for hones. Imagine being a ruler collector...

Thanked: 13247Hmmmm with Paypal how it is ??? probably they would refund yer money...
But you also should have read the whole ad... He was baiting with the pic that could have been fixed with a "Crop" but to expect honesty from a seller is also naive...

Though you're disappointed, don't be too upset. I think you still did OK by getting some barbers hones, which are increasingly difficult to find.

Thanked: 317I don't think you have any chance of getting your money back, or any reason to want it.
Even if all you got was two swatties, you still got a good deal. While the pictures may not have been the clearest, the description was absolutely and completely clear.
One picture also included the end of a razor roll full of straights, but they were obviously also not included.
Likewise, when I sell razors here I usually photograph them with my doming block, both as a support and as a perspective/scale reference. Nobody has ever emailed me after a purchase because they didn't get a doming block with their razor.
Was it a little sleazy to include them in the photo? Probably. But that doesn't mean the add was anything less than crystal clear. It's also entirely possible that they were included only for size/color comparison. Same with the straights. Commercially produced razors are fairly consistent in the width of the scales, and including a variety of them in that one photo makes it easy to judge the size of the stones.
