Tried the marker test or looked under magnification at the edge ?
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Two question you said that you have sharpen this blade on another stone before a couple times. What type of stone was it that you used before and how wide is it?
Second when you are done lapping you Norton and you run your hand over the surface of it was does it feel like?

Thanked: 0the stone i originally used is 2 inches wide so i have to use an x pattern.
the norton 8k side feels baby smooth when i'm done lapping but the 4k feels like it's a little more aggressive than it should be

I would say that your 4k side needs to be lapped some more then as both sides should be very smooth to the feel when they are ready to be used. Once you get the 4k side smooth you will most likely be good to go but since you did take your razor to this stone already the bevel might be off so you may want to look at the first vid in this thread by gssixgun http://straightrazorpalace.com/video...-gssixgun.html

Thanked: 1936Without seeing the razor (pictures take most of the guessing out of it), it sounds like you may have a razor that has a weird/un-even grind. I've run into it a couple times & it really shows its ugly head when honing off 3" wide hones. If this is so, you should send it to someone with a bit more experience honing. Learning to hone with a good blade is hard enough without having to deal with a crazy blade.
On lapping a stone, you don't have to "glue" any sandpaper to whatever flat surface you are using. Water works fine. I used the countertop for a while until I managed to pick up a piece of granite countertop, just keep the stone on the paper... I personally use 400 grit sandpaper for stones up to 8K. Use plenty of water.
To ensure your dmt is flat, you could wrap sewing thread or any other thin thread around it tightly end to end and it will tell you the story.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott

I'm thinking a second opinion may help. If you have someone local who's experienced, you may want to have them take a quick go at lapping your hones and honing your razor. If not, getting the hones to someone may be problematic, but the razor certainly isn't. Should you have any interest and no luck finding someone close by, please send me a PM. I'll hone your razor for you (if you'll cover the shipping), or at least give it my best attempt in the case that it is the monster you make it out to be (and if I can't hone it I'll cover the shipping back to you), and I'll send you a detailed PM and/or email with any issue or issues that I find and how I addressed them.
On one condition - tell me the type of razor and email me a photo first.
