Hone ID + Today's Finds! *Pics*
So I spent today (my day off) with my little girl (3) going back up to our old house in SoDak to get her playset and a few other things that were buried under 24"+ of snow pack when we moved.
Since we were in an area where I had not hunted for razor goodies, we hit up some antique shops and I made some finds. Here are two of them.
The first is this Swaty, which I believe is a genuine 3-line and was very excited to find with everything I've read about them here.
This was sitting in the back of a display case with a few safety razors and a whole lot of medicine cabinet stuff. See below...I think this is the real-deal 3-line.
Then I spotted this box in with some kitchen knives and other kitchen stuff. I recognized the brand name and the price was pretty cheap so I took a gamble and picked it up. It's double sided with one side feeling pretty smooth, but the other feeling fairly coarse. (Though not near as coarse as the Norton 220/500 knife stone I've got for pocket knives, etc.)
Any idea if the 110 is a razor hone, or did I just get a good stone for sharpening the knives in the kitchen?
It's in good shape except for the chip at one corner of the rough side.
So did I get a winner on this one?
Peace,

Thanked: 1936The Swaty is a good find & doesn't appear to be chipped up. It will make a great addition to your shaving tools. The second stone is just for knives or tools...still a good find though!

Thanks for the replies guys. I knew the Carb was kind of a gamble, but had seen them here on SRP several times. Since I've found strops and even razors in with kitchen supplies I didn't know if that stone had just been misplaced or what. I've got a pocket knife that needs some touch up work. I'll see how it treats it.

Thanks Antique stores are my only outlet for SSAD (Shaving Stuff AD) as I'm too financially challenged (poor) to pick up goods from people who need to make a profit. I had about 30min and knew of an antique shop. Took my little girl out to lunch, and bought these with the change I had left over.
The swaty does appear to be in great shape and I will turn to it when I need to touch up my razors I'm using now.
Peace,

Nice Swaty! Seldom seen without some chips-yours looks perfect. They work better with a little lather than with water alone, IME. The blade sticks to the stone for more even contact.

Thanks for the tip. My weeks pretty busy for getting to play around with razors, but will probably get to some of my projects this weekend. I'll give the Swaty (and the lather) a shot then.
