    Default Lapping an escher?

I received the dark blue escher I purchased on ebay today. It has some scratches so I was wondering if it should be lapped? I do have a lapping plate. When I lapped my c12 it didn't feel as fine after.

I know the escher is supposed to be softer than the c12. I haven't tried to get a slurry on it yet.

With all of them that I have, and have had, I lap with a 325 diamond plate. Draw the usual pencil grid and lap in the kitchen sink under running water. Chances are it could do with a good lapping as it is unlikely that it is flat. They are good hones and you will probably be glad to have it once you get to know the stone.

    +1

they are very soft and lapping is a breeze. 5 minutes with a DMT 325 and you're done.

I never used anything but sandpaper on a kitchen worktop: works a treat.

The 4k side then the 8k? I think I'll try my flattening stone on one side...if it doesn't work out well, I'll make that the botton.

No need for the 8K side.
The 4K side is absolutely more than fine enough.
Don't take away more stone than you need, it's precious stuff going down the drain

One thing to keep in mind, the stone will end up as flat as what you lap it with. If the plate, stone, sandpaper .... or whatever isn't flat then the result won't be a flat stone. So if you are using the 4k check it with a straight edge first.
