It is great seeing the stuff others have. The one I'm really hoping to see some day is Hi_Bud_Gl's. I suspect he has the most extensive and diverse collection of hones, and of course his knowledge of them makes it even more of a treat.

I'm sorry I cannot contribute yet. We are still trying to buy a house and our belongings are spread out between two states. Most of my hones will have to remain in boxes until we find a house for consolidation. Besides, the only unique thing about my hones is the number of barber hones I've accumulated. Even though the high end naturals can perform "better," I remain fascinated by the diversity of characteristics of the barber hones and there are still of lot of them that I don't have!

Hey Lynn, it was probably a good idea that you included a shot of your home alarm system in your first hone photo!

+1, i'd like to see Hi_bud's collection too, but I wouldn't be surprised if ALX outdoes all of us.

Here is a photo I stole of your coticules last time you posted them. In case you have been missing them. BTW, I believe you have one more hone on the way. Name: Coticule Pile.jpg

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

This is my entire collection that I'm trying to whittle down.

    Left to right:
    DMT 600/1200
    DMT 200/325
    Chosera 1K

    Coticules (top Row):
La Veinette (probably my best overall coticule - fast on slurry, slow on water and leaves an amazing edge)
La Veinette Narrow (similar to the one above, use it on smiling or warped spine razors)
La Petite Blanch (@nd Favorite, fast on slurry and water, narrow and great all around. A little keener edge than the Veinettes)
3 Les Latneuses (showing hybrid sides only. Hybrids leave one of the smoothest finishes off a coticule you can get)

    (second row)
La Dressante (workhorse of a hone. Fast on slurry and water and leaves the most keen edge of any of my coticules)
La Verte (new addition - haven't tested it out yet)
La Grosse Blanch (buttery smooth edges off this one)
La Grosse Jaune (similar to the Blanch)
La Grise (slow on slurry and water. Basically a finisher only, but leaves a smooth edge)

    3rd row
Vintage Coticule Combo (very nice stone, fast on slurry and slow on water. Reminds me of my La veinettes. Killer edge off this one)
    Slurry stones
    7x1.5" Escher
7x1.5: Vintage Thuringian (edges off these to are basically identical. Use them when I want to refine the coticule edge a little sharper)

Upper right - Charnley Forest (hardly ever use this one. Too slow and think they are overrated)
Lower right - Frankonian (very similar to escher/thuri)
Lower left - Oozuku Asagi and tomonagura (need to play with this more as I've had some edges off it that are the best off any of my finishers. Just not consistent enough on it)
    Grump and Nphocus like this.

Sheesh. I won't bother to post my Swaty or my Libertas barber hones. Right now I'm feeling like the one little kid in the neighborhood who didn't get the latest greatest toy for Christmas...rubbing my pennies together and hoping the hone I want to buy doesn't get discontinued before I can scrape together the money for it!

I WILL keep this thread handy though, so when I do make a hone purchase or two down the road, I can give an answer to the wife when she asks "Do you really need those?"

Thanks for sharing your collections guys!

    Peace,

    Peace,

Glad I'm not alone. I'm sending out for an aloxite Bhone tomorrow. Then it's time to start saving for a set of Nortons.

Peachtree has the Norton 220/1k, 4k/8k, lapping stone, tray and honing DVD for less than $120. Killer deal.

I see some things there I wouldn't mind having. Love the coticule I got from you last week.

That is a killer deal. I've been eyeing the Nortons at Lie Nielson Toolworks, cheaper per piece than anyplace else I've looked and some stones I haven't seen elsewhere...of particular interest to me and my needs is the Norton 1k/4k combo. I'll sooner scrape together the $50 for that than the $120 though that is a killer deal.

Something about seeing all those bouts cracks me up. A few years ago before all the marketing effort, they could not be given away. Now if I can just find some big ones like Jimmy has..........

So many pics of so many great looking stones!!
