Next try. Shouldn't we, above pictures of a lot of hones emphasizing sheer numbers, prefer a lot of pictures of few special hones highlighting details?
Two favourites, a 5x2'' Escher and an antique, but beautifully preserved 4/8'' Heljestrand № 23:
Another pictures of the hone:
Note the various cut and scrape marks; they cater for endless viewing pleasure:
The contrast between the small yet chunky, brick-like quality of the stone and the delicate nature of the flimsy aged and tattered label moves me:

Thanked: 2591If we are talking about best of the stones,
here is mine:
Oozuko Mizu Asagi , very uniform color, light gray (true Asagi color).
The stone is the finest and smoothest out of ~45 Jnats I have tried so far.
The big bonus is that it is not only fine but pretty fast(for a finisher) too.
Edges off of it are the smoothest and sharpest I have experienced, of any hone.Stefan

Here are my hones. Chosera 1k, SS 5k and 8k, my thurry, a coti slurry stone that I use on my Chosera, a barber hone I use to refresh other hones when necessary, and my coasters (bbw/coti and mystery Chinese hone). I zoomed out to show my summer workspace as well, on the table that CarrieM was kind enough to supply me.
Not pictured is my Asagi, which I keep in a cabinet so that I don't get dust on the surface.
When I'm not honing, the cookie sheet and laptop trade places.

Thanked: 3795That stack was well supported from behind. Trust me, when I took that photo I took great precaution to make sure there was no risk of falling rocks. Though Iowa is not a major earthquake epicenter, the US Geological Survey was consulted prior to the formation of that stack.
Oh, and I think I have found 3 or 4 or more coticules since that photo!

Ron,
Lord help us all when you get settled and can find all your hones!! Remember to have a separate bathroom to store them. That way everyone will know that you have rocks in your head!

Late entry
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
