Question Do you know what hone is that?

    Hey,

My dad bought a hone, it's German B.T.C (??). Have you heard or seen such hone?

    Best regards,
    w.

Quite possibly one of the darker German Thuringians.

If it's a natural stone it almost has to be a (grey) Thuringian. Excellent stone for finishing.

    Thank your dad!

That is good for 8.00. I'd clean it up a bit with some DMT's, if you have em, if not, break out the wet sandpaper, rough at first, 220g, work your way to 1000g, it'll look brand new...Probably glued in the box, isn't it...?

I'm not sure yet, it was ordered two days ago, it should be safe home on Monday. I'll try sandpaper first, then post the results. Do you have any hints on how to check the grit? Or maybe this is one of those things on earth where experience and practice come into play?

Thuringians and Escher are pretty consistent when it comes to grit for a natural, basically 10-12k, The thing with Eschers and Thuringians is they give a very smooth shaving edge. It's my favorite and go to finisher 9x out of 10. I just like the way the razor feels on my skin. I'm sure that's why they've always been sought after.
Here's a hone comparison table for you to look at...and....All Escher's are Thuringian stones, Not all Thuringians are Eschers...FWIW....
