Thanked: 35Stefan, Maruka Maruichi is not just a stamp, unless fake, that is what I
know, might be wrong. Of course this does not mean all of them are great,
and this depends what you are using it for. My buddies' was selected for razors, that's
what he told me. Very expensive stone, he would not tell me how much it cost,
but more than a thousand he said. He bought it 15 years ago. Fantastic stone.
Sure the improvement of 8K to 30K is there, but the OP already has
a 12K naniwa stone. Again the improvement from 12 to 30k will be there,
but how significant is it.
To the OP,

I have purchased j-nats from Max, jim Rion, classifieds and one I cannot remember right now.
I find that as long as you purchase the stone from a reputable source you will do fine. Max does well analyzing the stones from feel. When Jim has stones he has spent time with them to fully analyze their characteristics. The same could be said for purchasing from a known member here.
I think that owning a thuringian, coticule and naniwa 12 the op knows the differences between finishers, it just sounds like he is looking for another toy.

I too have a j-nat from Max and love it. The "feel" that I get from a razor finished on it is very comfortable. I have tested razors that i use often because I love the shave they deliver and find i get an even better shave after it goes on the j-nat. I have also started using razors I abandoned because of the shave they delivered and now find i like them much, much more. Now that I have this finisher , I intend to use it every time. At least till I find an escher. LOL

Thanked: 522I have a Nakayama Asagi that performs as well as my LG Escher and was told by two of the most knowledgeable people on this forum to never sell this stone. I have had it for more than two years and earlier this year I sent it to a vendor/honemeister for testing and comparison and again was told to never sell this stone.
Then I tested 5 Jnats from a very knowledgeable vendor in California and my Nakayama Asagi came out on top for performance. He also told me that I have a very good stone. I have been str8 shaving for 43 years and I know when I am getting a close/smooth shave.
Jnats forever. Eschers too...................JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with Maxim at JNS. Both Ozuku's I've received from him are a pleasure to use. Obviously if you have a coticule, thuri, and 12K SS you know your finishes. A quality JNat will definitely give you something different than those. Coti, Thuri, and JNat edges are my favorites and I could shave everyday with any of those finishes.

Jnats are way too complicated. Just get an Escher.
