Cleaning a stone and lapping the surface is not something I would consider restoring.

They are nice stones, congrats. So why are Coticules GREAT?

Piet: What would you consider 'restoring' then, when it comes to hones? Is there such a concept?

I tend to agree with the OP that restoration of hones is reconditioning the surface to allow at optimum the use it was originally manufactured for. Albeit minor when compared to the restoration of badly corroded razors for example which involves considerably more work and talent, restoration need not be extensive, again only to allow its original use. The preparation of the surface of even a slightly dished or dirty hone is restoration.

But gentlemen, let us not enter debate concerning semantics for it is little more than an exercise in futility, departing from the OP and the beauty of his new hones.
