What I am wanting to do soon. is compare it to the Norton 8k using the same test we do here at work. basically you take a small piece of metal and encapsulate it into resin. then grind smooth using a hone. then put it under the 1000x microscope. We use the system at work to look for excessive carbon chains after heat treat, but I think it would be good to see "how" smooth my different hones polish up.

Our corporate offices have a scanning electron microscope, now that would be cool...
Sounds like a good way to test it and any other stones you pick up, let us know (hopefully post some pics) the results.

WOW, I think your right, I googled it and found several that looked almost identical (but better shape) odd thing is, when I put water on it with my water spray bottle it doesn't bead up. I will have to weigh my options on if I want to just start using oil, or perform a deep clean on it.

    Thanks

Somebody before you could degrease it on the top and what you see is crud insight of the hone. Washita is quite porous stone.

If this is a Washita & it does look like it, you would not use it after 4k let alone 8k. It is the coarse grade of Arkansas type stones.

Bite the bullet and go onto E-Bay and buy a Swaty hone for about $22 American, save a lot of work and you know when you put a STr8 on it is won't ruin any metal. IMHO, thanks for readin'!!
