Make sure you get the most from the razor before moving to the Escher and use slurry!
Mine smells nice too, but it's from Jimmy LOL.

Thanked: 286i've just got mine today, just post how you used the stone with or with out slurry water etc. And if you used it after coticule.i will try mine later. I'm going to use it on a coticule honed razor that shaves well, and seethe differance, i'm not sure as to use just water or slurry to water.

Gary, I used it on a razor that was shaving but needed to be touched up. I just did about 50 laps on slurry, diluted it a bit as I went, and did about the same on water when I was done. The shave was very nice, and my face still feels great today after shaving last night... It wasn't any better than my results with a coticule or anything, but it's very, very nice and it was only a first attempt. I'm expecting it to get much better before I PIF it back to Jimmy...

Thanked: 286Thanxs for that info paul. i just took the escher to a 7/8 ti that i honed on my lpb coticule. i have t o say it shaved extremy nice and i'm happy with it. I did 100 laps on escher with water only. I got carryed away. the shave just now was very nice indeed i would say it felt more silky, very similar to a good coticule edge but very silky smooth , i'm very impressed with the result. It was'nt crisp which in the past i have found with escher, may be due to me in that case. I will be trying the same on my razor, 100 aps on water , then next shave i will do 50 laps on light slurry, i will compare, if nesacerry i wil then try water again. this will give me a good guide.

I like a light slurry as well, that really adds to the smoothness!
They leave wonderful edges I think, and are very consistent in performance.

I know I've posted about it before, but my Y/G Escher is my favorite finisher. I got one from Lynn some time ago.
Slurry really makes a difference, you don't have to go crazy, but a light slurry diluting as you go works. I got a slurry stone from Mueller at Timber Tools. It's great. I understand you can use the C12k slurries too.
I recently finished a blade on slurry, not finishing with plain water, and it was great, (Thanks Gary) It was a Torrey, kind of crappy, dull.
I did 15 x strokes, followed by 20 circles, followed by 15 x strokes, So 50, diluting as I went. I shaved with it today, right after stropping, 30/60 on SRD's Eng. Bridle, and it was great, very smooth, and resulted in BBS.Last edited by zib; 08-17-2011 at 08:57 PM.
