Nagura Honing with Tape
Hi Guys.
I've been honing with the nagura series Stefan outlines here (http://straightrazorpalace.com/advan...-tutorial.html) for some time now. I usually go from a 1k (King, but most recently the Big Green Shrimp) then through the meditative nagura sequence. Admittedly it's not all that efficient but the results never disappoint.
Is anyone else using this method also use tape? I'm curious if anyone has found it to work for them, what brand, any info?
I tried it once at the NYC meetup and found it to be, frankly, disgusting. Honing on naturals is all about feel and the tape ruins it.
PS: I'm considering a natural stone between the BGS and Boton nagura. Any suggestions?

I use tape all the time, no matter the hone, for me it feels great as I'm used to it. I don't feel it ruins the feedback really.

Hmm. Maybe tonight while I buy hurricane supplies I'll try another brand of tape and give it another shot.

Oh, and I have a Tenjyou nagura I used before the Tomo nagura, works great, but I mostly use my Ozuku as a finisher with the tomo only.

Thanked: 13245I admit to being a tape snob but honestly I have found the 3M #700 seems to do everything right, wears well, and leaves near zero residue..

I use super88 or super33+
Both great tapes for this, IMO.
The 88 is a bit stiffer and therefore my preferred one.
Oddly, while working as an electrician back in the day, I preferred the softer, more flexible 33.
Both are 3M Scotch tape.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I thought I was using super88. I'm not sure now, it was a while back when I bought it.
Maybe it's just something I need to get over. The feel isn't what I'm used to now having honed so much without tape. Also, all that precious slurry getting scooped up onto the tape, maybe it's a nonissue.
