    Marble is metamorphosed calcite. CaCO3. it's pretty soft stuff for honing use.

    By looking at the picture it's really impossible to say what it is unless someone has that exact rock. The white stuff could be one of many many minerals from quartz on down.

    the white in the stone does look like quartz the stone looks hard see all the scratchs on it ?
