DGLP is the Shapton Lapping Plate. Any retailer carrying Shaptons should have it. Diamond on Glass Lapping Plate?

Just to answer some of the questions.
    Llyn means in English Lake.
From there you can deduct Llyn Idwal is lake on bottom uf Cwm Idwal. History says that the lake was named after one of the sons of historic prince of Wales was drowned in the lake. The hone is novaculite type. The quarry is publicly accessible however it is SSSI and even when you are in not many people know what was the quarry for.
Llyn Melymllyn tranlated je Yellow Lake. So far so good. But to my knowledge there are now 3 locations in Snowdonia with that name. So far I was able to locate and visit only two of them. They are only few miles apart from each other. However each is in different mountain range of Snowdonia. The hone itself is slate.

Nice answer. There are at least two different kinds of Yellow lake stones, but I have one like the one you have but darker, almost black. No, the purple color has nothing to do with garnets, and on BBW i think it's the Manganese salts that make it look like that. I really like this stone, used with oil as a finisher I've had many pleasant shaves. It gets much finer. Many slate type stones are suited for razors, the nakayama and many more Japanese stones are slate.

Not sure of the difference but Nakayama stones are shale as opposed to slate.

IIRC, slate is the metamorphic state of the sedimentary shale.

Yes you are right. However it depends which quarry you talking about as there is one quarry closer to LI in fact it is on the same ridge/range of Snowdonia.
LM or YL are more slate and LI is novaculite.

I'm rather excited to give this hone a try as most indicate the Yellow Lake is around 8-9K but the seller claims 12k. *digs through my razor collection for a good tester*
use oil and you'll get the best possible edge off of the stone
