I wanted to clarify some things I made in this post as I wasn't trying to offend anyone but unintentionally did.

When I say please don't bread knife a razor on a DMT 325 because it's become dull (running through denim as example) I meant that it's going to cause you a lot more problems than just a dull razor. Bread knifing is an extreme to fix a severe problem (big visible chips on the razor, etc). That's why in Glen's video he says that this is a last resort over and over again.

A razor that is dull from improper stropping, running on denim, etc, can be honed out on the 1K level and have the bevel set. It may take you 10-30 minutes but it's not something that needs fixing by grinding an edge into a diamond plate. Some people like to dull razors on glass before honing, seen on Coticule.be, I don't like doing this but that is way less severe than a diamond plate as it only dulls the very edge of the razor which is known as killing the edge. A DMT 325 plate wouldn't just kill an edge but take the bevel from something near a < shape to something that is most extreme and flat like this [. Now you have a lot more than just a dull edge to fix but the whole flat plane of the bevel to reshape, that's going to take a lot more time.

Also if someone has never ground their edge into a DMT 325 before be aware, please, that you can also crack the blade of the razor unintentionally by torquing your hand even slightly by mistake. That is just one problem that can happen, there's about 20 more you can run into also.

My question in my last post of "have you ever honed a razor before" Was not geared towards you, Flyfishingguy, but to the original poster. I was asking if he had experience so we knew how much advice was needed to help him out. That wasn't clear by me, so as mentioned in our PM, I wasn't trying to insult you.

Chips that are so big is the only time I would bread knife a razor, like this maybe, but I've worked on bigger the only time I did this:
Antique Straight Razor Clauss & Box | eBay

I never buy new razors, I only buy junkers I find on ebay or in the antique shops. All but one of them in the past two years has needed someone lower than a 1k level stone to reset the bevel...

That is the ONLY time I would do this. You do not need to use a 325 on a dull razor, ever. You can cause a whole series of serious damage this way, including a split or crack from the edge to the spine (or somewhere in between) if you don't know what you're doing.

All you need to do is go to the 1K level and reset the bevel which may take about ten minutes at the most if your strokes are correct. Use back and forth strokes, X strokes, circles, etc. Water should move up the entire edge of the razor. Once you can shave arm hair at skin level, move to the 4K level and so on.

Have you honed a razor before?

Also why would you cut something with your straight razor?
