Which side
Would you say that in most cases the side of a two sided hone that has the makers mark is the smoothest side? Are there any exceptions?

Thanked: 13245I haven't seen any... Doesn't mean they ain't out there, anytime you make a statement like that in this hobby I have found there will be an exception out there to prove it wrong
You should be able to feel the difference though either way, one a 2 sided Barber's hone or most other Sharpening stones

Thanks Glen, The only reason I asked is because I have a HSB hone OVB # 1000, that is two sided and when honing on it the side with the makers mark sounds gritty when using it and the other side doesn't.

Yes, it is two shades of grey with the bottom side being the darkest, nearly black, but I don't have a camera. It got dropped.
