    Default keeping sandpaper from curling?

Wet Dry sandpaper curls up when it gets wet. Makes lapping stones a little harder. Anyone have a way of preventing this?

Is the wet or dry paper good quality? I lap my hones on a piece of plate glass, the water makes the paper stick flat to the glass.

I'd use a fine mist of 3M Spray Mount on the back of the sandpaper and tack it to the plate glass before getting the surface wet.
I think double sided sticky tape would give raised areas, spray mount lays flat.
Also, in a previous post, I read hair spray works.

I'd just let them curl up. It seemed to round the edges of my hone while I was lapping it.

I also got high spots from the two side tape. Also the paper still bulges a little when taped. Was thinking of wood glue but might try the 3m spray. It's called spray mount?

This messed up my lapping job on naniwa 12k. I had to go back and re-lap

How so? I use enough pressure to keep the stone flat and I didnt push too far into the curl. What happened?
I was lapping a PHIG too, so that may be a factor.

After pencil grid lapping on paper I checked with a square and the hone was not flat. I think the paper either messes up the outside honing area, or prematurely erases pencil marks in those areas. Either way I'm no longer as happy with the flatness I'm getting with sandpaper and I think it's from curling and bulging. I'm now relying on my Norton plate more and more for flattening any type of hone.

I get great edges after lapping on a DMT 325 followed by a light lapping on a Norton 1k.
Give it a try. I tried lapping on paper. PITA
