Chosera 5k users opinion wanted
I am debating about getting a 5k Chosera in my honing arsenal, but I am a bit hesitant. I use a 1k Chosera, 4/8 Norton, 10k SS, and a Jnat now, and I would change out the 4/8 Norton if I would like the 5k Chosera, and get a 8k Snow white too. I will use them for knives and tools too, so that would be the main reason for changing out the Norton for a harder and slower wearing stone.
So, how do you like your 5k Chosera? How thirty is it? How fast? How nice is the edge it leaves?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Sounds like a good plan to me.
I find the entire range of Chosera's to be of a very high quality.
Both when it comes to durability, speed and resulting edges.
Compared to the 4/8 Norton it most certainly is a fair bit harder, heavier and more dense.
The feedback from that stone is very nice too, not scratchy at all, but with good audible feedback.
I tend to soak them for about 5-15 minutes before honing, but really, adding a pool of water on top of it will suffice.
For comparison, the 5K drinks less water than the 1K, and the 10K even less.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I sharpen all my working knives to 1k, and I am totally satisfied with it. I would only try the 5k on high end japanese cutlery, not normal knives. Everything upwards from 5k is only for razors, and woodworking tools, where a very nice polished edge is mandatory.

I recently purchased the 1k, 5k and 10k chosera stones. I had asked a knife vendor/sharpener expert about these stones and he commented that the 10k gives a much better result if the 5k is used in the series. According to him, the 5k is the magic stone in the series. His only caution was that he says many of his knife colleagues have had problems with the 5k cracking.
I went ahead with the purchase and epoxied the stone to a Corian base. To me, a noob, the stone is very smooth, offers good feedback, is faster than my Norton. I do not soak, for fear of cracking, but spray, slurry with either the nagura provided, or with an Atoma.
My results with the 5,10 chosera followed by a jnat finish have given me awesome results.

I had a setup consisting of Chosera 1k, 5k, 10k and a Suehiro 9k which to me is a twin to the Naniwa Junpaku Snow White (tried them both).
I sold the 5k and 10k Chosera, since they did not give me the results I wanted.
I found them to be too agressive for razors and the resulting edge was inferior to that of the Superstones and Shaptons (personal preference, perhaps).
The Chosera are no real polishers and if you are used to the mirror of the SS 10k, you won´t be very happy with what the 5k has to offer.
My Naniwa SS 8k was inable to remove all the scratches from the Chosera 5k. A major selling point for me.
If this is something that won´t bother you, the Chosera 5k is extremely quick, not very thirsty (mainly spritz and go) and recommended for tools.
The Suehiro 8k (probably very much like the Junpaku) on the other hand is a fine polisher. It won´t produce a perfect mirror but to the naked eye you will probably be satisfied.
The resulting edge has always been to my pleasure.
I am in the market for a 5-6.000 grit stone that will cut fast and leave a good polish to work with and have not yet suceeded.
So far I use a Shapton Pro 5k, that is quite good for tools and razors
Maybe you find something interesting in the 6k range of Sigma Select II?

I´ve got the Chosera 1, 3, 5, 10. Originally intended to replace my Cerax line.
After sharpening some vintage Henckels I found them to be very aggressive so I switched back to the Cerax Stones for now.

I dont have a Chosera, but my set up is a 1200 king a 5000 king and a 8000 King, then a 12000 Naniwa super stone, and i'm more than pleased with the results, for the money the king stones, and the Naniwa stones are hard to beat imo.

did most of you finish with the 10K or did you move on to something else in a finer progression.
