It is still pretty much a labor of love for me. I still look at every razor though, as a challenge and if it doesn't turn out like I want, it goes back on the table for the next day. The fun part is being able to rotate different stones in and out of the rotation just to see what happens. I still use the one stone method with Coticules all the time trying to better my hit ratio which is still running about 7 out of 10 razors. I find that I can change a stone in the rotation whenever I want to and then see what it does on a number of razors and get a better feel for its potential. It really never gets dull for me so to speak........

    Have fun.

The problem with this kind of question is that The Shapton Glass, Norton and Naniwa Super's are really equal to me from a results standpoint and only differ in the feel and different feedback from each. I personally have not liked the Shapton Pro or Kings and several others nor have I had consistent results with the films. There is so much personal preference involved in this sport and so little difference in outcomes, especially with some of the finishing stones, that it becomes very hard to advise people. When I teach people to hone here, I normally teach them on the Naniwa or Nortons. Sometimes I just teach them on what they want to learn on. The person honing makes as much difference as the tools he is using in my opinion.

Lynn, Thanks! I guess I was just wondering what some of the members might choose if they had to make a choice of just three hones for personal use. You, Being the most experienced and with a modest hone inventory would be a great one to ask. I dont know why, but I kind of thought you might make the choice you did. I like the Nortons, Shaptons and Naniwa's, too, but since I finally found a coticule that really works well for me and also got an Escher (yellow/green) from Jimmy, I guess I'm excited about the naturals now, who knows, but I'm finally getting great results from the naturals, which I'll attribute to the stones. Anyway, Thanks for the reply!!

    Regards,

    Howard

Edit: Read the rest of the posts after the above and I think Jimmy hit the nail on the head about being a labor of love and the need for replaceable consistency, which many of us never consider since most of us will never wear a hone out! 4 to 6 hours a day, PHEW!!!
