    Its counsel usually ignored (I ignored it), but WTH. Glen's 10/11 thread on honing tells the story, along w/ some others: Learn the Shave first. THEN learn to hone.

    If you need a hand w/ edges, I and others will usually hone for just the cost of postage to send it back. Your face will thank you.

    Thank you for the offer and the link. I will certaintly study that. My real concern is that the razor I bought is not really shave ready. It's an Astral made by Dovo. I have read in the forums that almost every newly purchased razor is not truely shave ready no matter what the seller says unless you buy it from a source that offers a honeing service, I did not. I did buy a strop and some yellow paste so once I have the razor good and sharp I should be able to maintain an edge for a time. I also got me a DE razor so I am not stuck for a good shave and am going to take my time with the straight. Thanks to all who replied here to help me out, a very friendly forum.
