That's exactly what I'm afraid could happen.

I'm almost sure your supposed to hone on the non stamped side.

    I am

Since I got the Japanese market stones the only instructions I got in english was that they "can be used on both sides, but the non-stamped side is recommended", and "Do not leave in water over time"

I'm using the same stones & have not found the stamps fading. I thought you were honing on the stamps

Like I mentioned in an earlier post it might just be the exessive ink that's come off and that they won't get any worse than they are now.

Do you submerge them in water when you use them? If not what do you do?

I have left them submerged a few minutes before use. (When I start on one stone I put the next in line in the water)

Wouldn't hurt to use a waterproof sharpie in that case to label them.
I usually spray them first but if I lap them I feel they are wet enough .
IIRC recommended soak time is mere minutes, 5-10 ?

    Sounds familiar

I'm still getting to know them, trying to figure out what works best. They're quite different from the Naniwas I've used before.

    My experience is:

    sharpest edges = no slurry
    Fastest cutting = slurry
    wire creation = very easy
5k or 8k = good stopping point on soft steels before finishing
Less is more = too true

    Thanks!

I've noticed the speed is a critical point with these, on most of the razors I've honed til now it took less than 20 strokes before it started to undercut the water.

Yes ! they're almost like one step away from DMT's in speed. I don't have the 30 k because it's too exe but the others take me to my Jnats very quickly.
