Thread: Identification of this hone.

Im in the process of getting a hone, and I would like you guys to give your advise on what type of hone this stone is. Have any one see this hone in this wooden box?

I do not think that is a good stone. it would not work well for razors at all. can you please provide info as to who is selling it, so I can scold them for selling such junk.

Well heck I wonder what it is. Needs a little time with some sandpaper I think, but let us know how it goes. I've never seen that label. Of course I haven't been around since forever, but it is new to me anyhow. Good luck with it, and let us know how it acts. Soft, hard, edge results, etc. Pretty neat, although for some reason it makes me feel suspicious.

The seller saying its an Escher Hone. Has any one seen an Escher hone like this? I would like to know. Many thanks

sorry to say this, but that is definetely not an Escher nor a Thuringian hone. Can you supply a picture of the hone wet and one with slurry?

The information about the hone you vere given is not true. Just look at the label and with a bit of geography knowledge you can recognise that german hone as in your case Escher could not be produced in Brittain.
However it looks like interesting hone and I would suspect Welsh slate type hone. Let us know more when you get it.

Yeah it can't be an Escher hone because Escher is a brand name. There is no Escher branding, therefore, it's not an Escher. Not that it matters even a little bit to the edge it'll produce if it's Thuringian. I'm pretty skeptical of anyone saying anything definitive about whether or not it's thuringian just based on these pics. It could be a Thuringian stone. But it could be a lot of things. Either way, if it's Thuringian, then it was imported, cut, and distributed by whatever company would claim it. The "Haze" company I'm assuming? idk. Overall, the english isn't very well put together for an English advertisement. I've never seen a stone in that box, with that label.

I won't hazard any guess until you've told us how hard or soft the stone is when confronted with sandpaper.

Interesting hone to satisfy HAD. Shouldn't be too expensive, get it if you can and give it a try. Will need lapping. I wonder whether or not it is a Tam O'Shanter, looking at the speckled side of the hone on pic 2.
