Thanked: 109Better photos of not a CF what is it?
It was sold to me as a possible Charnley Forest. It wasn't overhyped and it wasn't expensive. It seems to finish as well as my B/G Thuri which I have on good authority is a very good Thuri. It slurries paisty grey which dries white but the stone is grey green. There are a few maybe three or four very small veins of red can't be seen in the photos. The speckles are evenly distributed around the stone and don't seem to affect honing. The only picture I have seen of a Tam is much more mottled with dark specks this stone shows the specks as quite clear little pin spots. There are two very small flake chips on one end the rest of the stone is smooth squared.
It will self slurry after many passes but only lightly.
It has a similar clink sound when the spine hits as the Thuri but then so does my PHIG. Any educated guesses from these poor photos? I may have to send this to a "authorized honemeister" for evaluation.

Hard to tell with the lighting in those pictures but I don't think it is a cf stone.

you hear a thuri ... it's a really clear sound of a shale. 'll take a razor and
you hear a kalren slate. It is unique

Thanked: 1936CF's, mine anyways, is rather hard stones & will not generate a slurry from any form of "normal" honing...it would take something like a diamond card or hone to generate a slurry. If you have a Arkansas stone see if the spine sound is similar. It's a good looking stone, but can you feel that inclusion in the top right pic?

Thanked: 109Well maybe a slurry is too strong a word. The clear water has something in it after honing it might just be swarf from the razor. To raise a true slurry I use a diamond hone 600 grit. I don't generally use a slurry as I am never in much of a hurry.
The stone is smooth to my fingernail and nothing you can see on the stone can be felt. I don't have an ARkie. I think it is slate. The two small chips have a pattern like slate.YMMV

This stone has become famous the last couple of weeks, if it's the one from ebay. It doesn't look like a Charnley. Those flake chips from the description sounds like Novaculite, but if you think they look like a slate type, I don't know. I wouldn't say it's definitely not a Charnley, but whatever it is, it's an interesting specimen. It kind of looks like the unknown stones that again look like Llyn Idwals or TOSs but we can't be sure what they are. Good luck.

Thanked: 109I didn't know it had fame. I did post before I got the stone and Llyn Idwals had come up. It doesn't look anything like Tams I can find photos. I just discovered a couple of more fine red lines....one across the end which runs down both sides of the stone.
I put it under a very bright white light(halogen) and the top and bottom surfaces are both washed with faint pink and the slightly green tint of the stone is quite clear.
I got a green CF. I will see if can get these features to show in a photo.YMMV
