    That's the sort of 'grittiness' I was referring to, ie it feels a bit gritty (or grainy) while honing with the slurry, not that the slurry feels gritty between your fingers - it is quite fine when dried, a bit like talc.

    Yes! It seemed VERY aggressive with the slurry! I will shave test the 2 I finished with no slurry and report. I wonder if this might lie somewhere between 8000 and 12000? It is a pain to figure out these naturals, is it not? A challenge.

    My stone looks and feels like a 12 K . Really smooth, you know. However when honing It made a gritty almost scraping sound. I kept flushing the razor and hone thinking I had somehow got some grit on it. It did not feel like it had grit on it. It just sounded gritty.

    Interesting. I had flattened mine, finishing with a very worn DMT. Using only water, it was very smooth to hone on. I did not feel any grittiness.
    Now slurried up, it felt like sand was on it!
