    Looks like a relatively coarse sandstone to me. Bit like the yorkstone flags I used lay once upon a time - they develop a 'riven' appearance like that. I imagine that the 'marbled' side was the underside of the hone and isn't much more than the accumulation of honing swarf, detritus and staining that slid down the sides and gathered under the hone and partly delaminated it. It might even be a Dalmore Yellow - a bit too coarse for razors. Looks like a few swipes with a DMT would remove all but ingrained staining.

    Fingers crossed that it is something good, though!
