Default Any idea what stone I have here?

Wondering since the box and stone has no id. The stone is 8 inches long and about 3 inches wide.

The pattern on one side is not on the other.

Sorry for the cell pics...all I got right now.

    Thanks

It looks like something between Dalmore (yellow?) and Hindostan. both of them are very good stones. If it's glass like hard, like black or translucent arkansas, it is Hindostan. If it is more like prefinisher, fine grained sandstone, it is the dalmore. Between those two, I would say its the Dalmore. But I can't rule out the possibility that it's something else.

Hey guys, I've no idea, seems to be a kind of limestone, but sure isn't a hybrid coti, maybe Vasilis or Piet are right.

I have no idea what it might be. Have you lapped the stone? We might be able to say more then, assuming that it isn't already lapped.

I just picked it up yesterday and really have no idea if I can even use it for a razor. It wasn't that cheap but I thought it was neat.

I don't really want to do do much to it if its usless for a razor. I'd rather try and unload it for it's intended use.

Looking the clear side, I would say, I think it is not fine enough as a finisher for a razor. But it might be useful as a bevel setter. And, I'M CURIOUS! Anyway, it's your choice. We will see what other members have to say about it, statistically, there will be someone on the forum who have seen one like this.

Beautiful stone. It looks like never used or even lapped. Those hones which were lapped with free sand method often show this kind of roughness. If you can lap one side and the edge it could give more information.
